Top Tips for Link Building
If you have
a website and are undergoing a search engine optimisation campaign then you
will know just how important link building is. This is often the part that many
people outsource to other companies however do you have any idea how to do it
yourself? If not then this article will give you some tips on how to get links
to your website and which you should be looking out for.
1. Use your
Keywords
This is
quite an important point. Many people know about selecting their keywords and
using them on their website but they are just as important for link building.
You should use them in the anchor text for your links. If you are not sure what
this is then it is the text that people click on to come through to your
website. The search engines will read this text and take it as an indication
about what your page is about. So it is absolutely vital that you get your
keywords into as many links as possible. However remember to vary it a bit, don't
use the same link text everywhere as this will look like spam.
2. Get a
Strategy
If you are
going to build links then it is vital your start with a strategy so you know
where to go and how to start. Below is a list of things to incorporate into any
campaign:
a. Manual
requests - this involves hand picking websites that you would like links from
and sending manual requests.
b. Directory
submissions - make you select free directories that do not require reciprocal
links or well known directories
c. Article
Submissions - write regular articles and submit them to directories
d. Press
releases
e. Social
Media and bookmarking websites
f. Blogs and
Forums
There may be
other ideas that you can use but is important to get into the habit of doing
something every day and make sure you know what you are going to do in advance.
3. Look for
Relevant and Authority Sites
The relevance
and quality of the site you get a link from is important when you are link
building. The higher the quality of the website that links to you the more
important the link will appear to the search engines. Getting a link from a
website that provides information and appears high in the search engines will
have a great value. However it is also important that the sites you get links
from are relevant to your website. This does not necessarily have to be the
whole site but the page you will be getting the link from.
4. Be
Careful of No Follow Links
This is a
tag that can be placed on a link that basically tells Google to ignore it. So
basically users of the site will be able to use the link but Google will not.
Most sites do not use this but you need to be particularly careful with blogs
as many use them as standard. We are aware that Google are changing the way in which
they implement the no follow tag and use it but try and avoid these types of
links for now.
If you are
aware of the above and make sure you are prepared there is no doubt you will be
able to implement a successful link building campaign.
