We looked
and on site factors in my last article and today we will look at the other
aspect of search engine optimisation and that is link building. The most
effective way to do this is to get as many free links as possible and this
article will consider ways in which you can get free links to your website.
1. Links
from Articles
One of the
best ways to get links is to get links from articles. This will obviously mean
you need to put in the effort and write regular articles and then take the time
to submit them to article directories. If you don't have too much time you
should focus on the directories with the highest page ranks as this will have a
larger influence than the lower page rank directories. The great thing about
these type of links is that you can set the text in your links and so can make
sure your keywords are included. You can also link to any page in your website
which will help you to spread the links out around your website.
2. Links
from Directories
Believe or
not but there are literally thousands of directories out there that are free
where you can list your website. Usually the requirement will be that the link
must be to your home page however you will be able to set the test that is used
to link to your site. The problem with this is it will take up a lot of your
time creating these links to your website. This is really the key to all search
engine optimisation campaigns and if you have the time and do things
consistently then you will get the benefits from it.
3. Links
from Social Networks
There are
several ways in which you can use social networks to market your website. The
first is when you set up a profile and most of them will allow you to add a
link to your website on your profile. In addition to that many of them will
allow you to post links or add bookmarks. A great way to use this is when you
write your articles add them to your website and use social bookmarking icons
to post them across the internet. These links really do count and they can also
help your content to be distributed across your network.
4. Links
from Blogs
These links
are less important but they can add some benefit. The best way to go about it
is to find 2 or 3 blogs that you find interesting and regularly comment on
entries. That does not mean just posting useless comments like "Nice Post" but
actually getting involved in the discussion. This will not only get you links
but also get you well known in your industry which could result in others
linking to you.
5. Links from
Partners
This is a
much less important type of link and there is a good chance Google will
completely ignore them but they may still take the anchor text into account.
However if you link to others you should always request a reciprocal link using
your keywords in the link text.
The
above are just some of the ways in which you can get links to your website but
be imaginative and think of as many ways as possible. The more links you can
get the better, as long as they are from quality websites.
